Prayatn Society for Environment Conservation

About Us

The need for sustainable development in today’s contemporary world is a priority when climate change poses a threat to humanity the world over. Aptly identifying the urgency to incorporate a goal plan, our Founder worked towards achieving conscious living, a pollution-controlled environment, and healthy food chains, through a systematic action plan which sustainably drives a holistic and balanced ecology.

He soon realized that conventional approaches towards tackling environmental issues around him were ineffective in today’s day and age. Hence, PRAYATN also known as (P.S.E.C.) came into existence with the purpose to serve our planet that deserves awareness, change & action towards a solution. This Vision was then propagated and together was implemented by the core body for the mission Prayatn.

Our planet, a speck on the vast canvas of the universe is fast approaching a point of no return. In the current world order, materials supersede human values, the economy is more treasured than ecology, and profits are prioritized over people. This ceaseless demand and greed for more are pushing our soil, air, water, food, forests, and climate closer to an inevitable collapse. PSEC exists because of activists, supporters, donors, and volunteers who believe in taking collective action for the environment. Our planet needs us more than ever -individuals, communities, and groups who have the power to shift the paradigm.

After five years of extensive work, in the year 2010 Prayatn Society for Environmental Conservation (PSEC) finally took its form as a registered legal entity. Under the Society Registration Act 1860 Uttar Pradesh, Prayatn successfully set up its headquarters situated in Agra Uttar Pradesh, India, striving to give back and protect the environment owing to which we all still live and breathe.

PSEC initiatives were never backed by any government funding agency, therefore we assist government bodies but never get influenced by them. PSEC extensively works on collaborating with other NGO’s throughout India on issues related to Environmental Conservation, Climate Change, Waste Management, Animal Rights & Welfare, Wildlife Conservation and Human Rights.

We promoted planting of more and more trees around the city. We helped people around us to be more aware about the waste management challenges and helped them adopt ways to reduce their non-degradble waste. We helped them adopt ways of converting the bio-degradable waste to compost which could be used to provide nutrition to the plants and trees as fertilizer.

We are restructuring our ideas to bring the much needed awareness and sensitivity in people pertaining to environment and its related issues. We are also focused on other sensitive social issues which hamper the growth of our society. We are welcoming volunteers and members to become member of our society and help us achieve our goals with their support.

1. There’s an environmental polluter in my city: what can I do about it?

In all but a few exceptional cases, PSEC works on a global scale and does not address individual pollution sites one by one. PSEC has limited resources and so chooses to focus on major threats to ecosystems and species — we simply don’t have the ability to address destruction at all levels. For local issues, we have to count on people like you who care and are willing to fight for what you believe. We can send you our support and best wishes, and advice on creating campaigns at PSEC HELP Page, where you will be connected to help and tools every step of the way.
Good luck: there’s No Time to Waste

2. I’m a student writing a report about an environmental problem. Can you send me information?

We get many requests at PSEC for help with general school reports about pollution and other environmental issues. We wish we could help each of you individually, but we try to keep our staff focussed on the tasks that people donate to PSEC for: to win campaigns for the environment. Don’t forget that you can search through all the information at the Greenpeace site.

3. I’ve just witnessed a horrible mistreatment of an animal. What can I do?

Greenpeace doesn’t address animal rights issues at a local level. We campaign for habitat protection and to stop the greatest threats to the natural world. You can also contact PFA

4. How can I get a job with PSEC?

Take a look at our job vacancies in India and there are also job vacancies listed on our other national/regional office websites.

5. How can I help PSEC?

There are lots of ways you can help. You can find out about jobs with the organisation and with our national office sites. You can also contact your local PSEC office to find out if you can volunteer. You can become a financial supporter if you are not already.

  • Mr. Puneet Gupta, President

    It has been a long innings for all of us at Prayatan Society , but there is still so much left to be done. We are now increasingly looking at not just providing relief to the needy areas, but also towards demanding what's rightfully theirs by working as a pressure group and joining the force of young and energetic members for the working closely with needy area.

PSEC is an independent campaigning organization, which uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and enforce solutions that are essential towards a green and peaceful future. PSEC’s goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity.

Therefore PSEC seeks to:

  • Protect biodiversity in all its forms.
  • Prevent pollution and exploitation of the earth’s ocean, land, air, and freshwater.
  • Promote peace and non-violence.
  • Promote sustainable and effective use of resources.
  • Promote conscious and healthy living.
  • Promote healthy food chains and ecosystems.
  • Prevent injustice and animal cruelty.
  • Spread awareness among all to achieve our sustainability Goals.

Believing that optimism is a form of courage and that a billion acts of courage can spark a brighter tomorrow, we strive toward achieving our sustainability Goals.

To practice what we preach and model courage, we champion courage, we share stories of courageous acts by our supporters and allies, and encourage people out of their comfort zones to take courageous action with us, in their daily lives.

The heroes of our story are all of us who believe that a better world is not only within reach, but is being built by us today.

Our Values

Praytan’s cornerstone principles and core values are reflected in all our environmental campaign work. They guide whatever we do and wherever we do it.

Our Core Values

  • Sustainable Development is the prime core value underlying and guiding all our actions.
  • We ‘bear witness‘ to environmental destruction in a peaceful, non-violent manner;
  • We use non-violent confrontation to raise the level and quality of public debate;
  • In exposing threats to the environment and finding solutions we have no permanent allies or adversaries;
  • We ensure our financial independence from political or commercial interests;
  • We seek solutions for, and promote open, informed debate about society’s environmental choices.

In developing our campaign strategies and policies we take great care to reflect our fundamental respect for democratic principles and to seek solutions that will promote  social equity.
